I don’t think that making biodiesel is particularly difficult. I made a batch in my kitchen that I chronicled here on www.wvofuels.com. It was very straight forward. You can also check out Kitchen Biodiesel or Dangerous Laboratory for other explanations of how to brew mini-batches. How difficult it is to make biodiesel is very subjective, but I’ve found it to be pretty easy if I have a good instruction set.

Stepping up to a processor is a bit more effort. Building a processor takes time, but the batches are not hard. A great time line can be found in the Collaborative Biodiesel Tutorial, “Getting Started Making Biodiesel” about half way down under “Timing”. To make a processor is a time commitment, even more so if you are never satisfied like me. I doubt that I’ll ever truly be finished tweaking mine to be “just that much better”. There are free instructions, books, plans, kits to buy, and fully assembled processors out there. If you do end up buying a processor, and spend $3000+, let me know, because I’ll make you better, for less $, and I’ll guarantee the results.
