So I’m still working on my second batch. Yeah, I know I’ve been doing that for quite some time now, but I’ve been out of town for work, on the river and not had a diesel (in the shop), so I figure that those are good excuses.
Here’s the update: I reprocessed the second batch after getting foam on the top of the “finished” product while attempting to air dry by bubbling.
The foam looks very much like the foam I’m getting now after washing the reprocessed second batch. I had thought that I had extra mono- and di- glycerides in my biodiesel, so I tested it, and viola, more glycerin. Could a second attempt at processing have failed also? Look at my gallery to see the rest of the pictures I took.
The main post image is a profile with some back lighting and here is a description. This is after 3 mist/bubble wash sessions, and has sat for over a week. There is a top layer of clear golden honey looking “biodiesel”, or rather what I assume to be biodiesel. There is a dusty top film that is residue of the foam that was the result of the final bubble wash. Below the “biodiesel” is a cloudy yellow layer that I’m guessing is soap or frozen?!? (it hasn’t been too cold here) crystals of bad stuff. The final layer, that is hard to diferentiate in the picture, is about 6 inches of wash water.
