Monday was Presidents Day and I had the day off. I cannot tell al lie, “I have rusted out fuel lines.”

I spent the day de-junk-showing the back yard. I cleared off the pad and pushed the 300TD onto the now clean concrete. I finally climbed under to check out the lines from the tank to the pre filter. There were no obvious problems, but I sure couldn’t see much, move around, or make much headway (bad, unintended, but as evidenced by the black smudges on my face, extremely relative pun) with only 10 inches of space. Off to Harbor Freight!

I’m the proud owner of a 2 1/4 ton hydraulic floor jack (On Sale for $39.99) and a set of 3 ton jack stands (On sale for $11.99).

With the new found room and a trouble light. I was able to track down some info. It looks like the original fuel line rusted through so a previous owner made some “modifications”. The return line was being used to get fuel to mid car where the main line was cut into and some fuel hose bridged the gap. The return line was then replaced by some fuel hose to that point where it joined the original return line. It must have worked, because I got all the way from Minnesota to SLC on it.

Well since then there has been some more corrosion. I cut off the old bridge section on the feed line that was old, wet, absent of any clamps, and therefore my focus for the leak. After cutting that section off, I noticed that the return line (now feed line) was way floppy. Steel pipe should not be floppy. So I wiggled and then pulled. I then had a handful of steel fuel line. One end recently attached to the bridge hose, the other end very rusty. I wonder if I can go WiFi with my fuel lines?

It looks like I will now be continuing the previous owners fuel system hack and hose both feed and return lines to mid car. How much was the fuel hose per foot?
